TFM Initiates 2.3 Km Road Paving in Tenke

In line with its corporate social responsibility, TFM has been dedicated to providing quality basic services to its neighboring community since its inception in the region.

Thanks to the TFM Endowment, formerly the Community Social Fund, the road network in the Tenke area continues to be strengthened. Consequently, 2.3 km of asphalt road will be added to the 5 km already delivered to the community by the TFM Community Social Fund.

TFM has consistently worked to deliver quality basic services to its neighboring community. Through various instruments, including the Cahier des Charges and the TFM Community Social Fund, the company has undertaken significant projects in various sectors, including health, education, agriculture, infrastructure, and more.

In this context, with the TFM Endowment, formerly the TFM Community Social Fund, the road network in the Tenke area continues to be reinforced. 2.3 km of asphalt road will be added to the 5 km already delivered to the community by the TFM Community Social Fund.

This road is the main artery of the Tenke area. Its complete renovation will sustainably open up the area by providing access to National Road No. 39, known as the Kolwezi road, and connecting its various neighborhoods, thus helping to boost the local economy.

This road renovation, combined with the existing railway network in South Katanga, gives Tenke strategic importance for the DRC. Tenke is a railway junction connecting the Benguela Railway from the west with the Cape to Cairo Railway, running south to north. Via the Benguela line, Tenke has access to Kolwezi, Dilolo, Luena, Huambo, and Lobito. Through the Cape to Cairo line, Tenke connects to Sakania, Lubumbashi, Kamina, and Kindu.

Amid cheers from the local population and traditional local music performed by the Lwanzo lwa Mikuba folk group, the work was launched on Wednesday, March 20, by officials from the new structure, the TFM Endowment.

As a partner and sponsor of the TFM Endowment, TFM was represented at the ceremony by its Deputy General Manager, John Woto, and the company's representative in the endowment, Hugo Sinza.

It is promised! In 4 months, barring bad weather, this section of the road will be completed, announced the contractor, Invest Congo. It will be identical to the 5 km section already delivered by the TFM Community Social Fund, featuring a 7-meter-wide carriageway, alternating curbs, water drainage systems, and concrete sidewalks for pedestrians.

Calling on the population to sustain community works, the Provincial Director of the Social Promotion Fund urged the population to maintain fruitful relations with TFM, the funder of the DOT-TFM. He praised TFM's initiative of being "at the forefront of establishing the 0.3% endowment." His message was echoed by several officials present at the ceremony.

Since November 2023, the TFM Community Social Fund has officially transferred its assets and liabilities to the TFM Endowment, which, like its predecessor, benefits from an allocation of 0.3% of TFM's turnover.

Recently, the TFM Community Social Fund has renovated the electrical network of Tenke and Fungurume. Tenke and Fungurume are the two major urban-rural centers of the TFM concession, with populations of approximately 50,000 and 270,000 inhabitants, respectively.
