A total of 500 seedlings were planted, marking the beginning of a pilot reforestation project. In the coming months, the initiative plans to plant 5,000 trees on an area of two hectares, demonstrating TFM's commitment to restoring ecosystems and promoting biodiversity. The ceremony brought together eminent personalities, including Blaise Zango, legal advisor to the provincial Minister of Mines, Environment and Sustainable Development; the Deputy Director General (DGA) of TFM John Woto; CPO Wu Shenggen; the managers of the environment and community development departments, Freddie Mukalay and Edouard Swana; the mayor of Fungurume, Leussaint Ntamb; and local traditional authorities. Several TFM employees also actively participated in this annual commemoration. The event began with a symbolic handing over of seedlings by TFM leaders and political and traditional representatives to employees, symbolizing a collective responsibility towards the preservation of the environment. The participants then went to the designated site to plant the trees.

In his speech on the occasion, the DGA of TFM, John Woto, underlined the importance of trees in the context of the challenges related to climate change and appealed to the local population to take care of the seedlings "You are aware that the world is going through a critical moment that is global warming. We therefore ask the commune of Fungurume, the chief of the district present, and the communities of Manomapia to take good care of these trees. That they can thrive and bring lasting benefits," said Mr. Woto. Supporting the DGA's words, Mr. Zango, stressed: "Planting a tree is to preserve the life of the population. Planting a tree means promoting the sustainable development of the DRC. It is not just a symbolic act. We plant, we also have to take care of their maintenance. » For his part, Freddie Mukalayi, Environment Manager, reaffirmed the company's commitment to environmental sustainability: "Trees are a very important player in our ecosystem. To combat climate change, we started this pilot project to show our communities how to plant a tree and raise awareness about planting at least one tree. Our hope is that this programme will be extended to other villages. » In parallel with this project in Fungurume, TFM handed over a batch of 1,500 young plants of various species to the provincial government of Lualaba. National Tree Day is an annual opportunity to promote reforestation and environmental awareness in the DRC. TFM's active participation demonstrates its leadership role in sustainable mining practices. In addition, this tree planting project is part of TFM's overall environmental strategy, in line with its ESG commitments.
