In support of youth education, TFM sponsors the Book Festival in Kolwezi
Tenke Fungurume Mining provided full support for the Book and Bible Festival in Kolwezi. More than 2,500 students and 18 schools actively participated in the festival exhibitions organized by Paulines and MédiasPaul publishers.
This multicultural event, held from February 28 to March 3, 2024, was dedicated to literature and its contributors, bringing together authors, publishers, booksellers, illustrators, and readers of all ages to celebrate their love of words. Through meetings, book signings, conferences, and workshops, the festival offered a unique space for exchanging ideas about literary works and their creators.
The Book and Bible Festival, Filibi 2024, was conducted under the theme "Reading, the key to integral development," a clear call to popularize the culture of reading within the Congolese cultural and literary space. The Royal Athenaeum Hewa Bora in Kolwezi, decorated in TFM colors, hosted various exhibitions, prioritizing mixed and new approaches, exchanges between literary categories and horizons, and programming that encouraged receptivity, discoveries, as well as national and international literary authors.
Albert Ilunga, coordinator of TFM's education program, led a delegation of 37 students and 7 mentors from 7 schools in Fungurume to represent the Lubudi territory at these literary sessions.
The festival was rich in activities, including visits to book exhibition stands, participation in various literary competitions such as poem composition, spelling bees, and dictation contests, with two winners from Fungurume: one at the primary level and one at the secondary level, as well as fashion and dance shows.
It was a successful endeavor for TFM, the sponsor of this Festival, which brought together a rich panorama of contemporary local editorial creation.
These days were an opportunity for many, of all ages, to renew their libraries. They were also an opportunity to revive the love of reading, and for the students, an opportunity to discover a selection of books made available to them for 5 days—a true literary feast. The book festival has indeed come to life.
